Sport Term 1 2019

In 2019 sports selection will require sports with an upfront cost to be paid before submitting your sports selection.

To submit a sports selection for a paid sport, you will be required to input your receipt number.

Online payments via the school's website is the preferred payment method.

When making an online payment, please select "Sport" and type in the sport you are paying for in the payment description.

Payments can also be made in person at the school's office.

Sports with a weekly venue fee require students to pay the weekly fee in cash at the venue.

Year 7 2019

Year 7 2019 students will be participating in a school based sport Week 1 2019.

From Week 2 onwards they will be participating in the mandatory aquatics program at various venues.

Years 8, 9 and 10 2019

The following is a list of sports on offer for Term 1 2019.


Free sports

School sport rotation

Students will be placed into groups and rotate between various school-based sports such as soccer, touch football, AFL, netball, basketball, volleyball, softball and table tennis.
Qualification and/or skills required: nil.
Venue: school grounds.
Cost: nil.
Transport: nil.
Max students: unlimited.

Walking

Students will walk as a group around various venues including the school cross country course, Hillsborough, Cardiff, and Warners Bay areas.
Qualification and/or skills required: nil.
Venue: various routes to and from school.
Cost: nil.
Transport: nil.
Max students: 40.


Paid sports

Athletics development squad *new*

Students will attend Glendale Athletics Track to train various track and field events in preparation for the representing the school at Zone Athletics. Students will have access to the facilities and participate in guided training sessions. 
Qualification and/or skills required: nil.
Venue: Hunter Sports Centre Glendale.
Cost: $110 for the term.
Payment: $110 paid in full or instalments online or to the school office by Friday 7 December.
Transport: bus.
Max students: 30.

Beach sports

Students will participate in various sports such as beach volleyball, cricket, touch football, soccer, Ultimate Frisbee and capture the flag.
Qualification and/or skills required: nil.
Venue: Nobby’s Beach.
Cost: $50 bus fare per term.
Payment: $50 bus fare per term. Paid in full or instalments online to the school office by Friday 7 December.
Transport: bus.
Max students: 30.

Fitness Fresh

A qualified instructor will take students through modified resistance training workouts using barbells, elastic bands, skipping ropes, rowing machines, and bodyweight exercises.
Qualification and/or skills required: nil.
Venue: Fresh CrossFit Cardiff.
Cost: $50 bus fare per term + $7 per week, equates to $120 for the Term.
Payment: $50 bus fare paid in full or instalments online or to the school office by Friday 7 December and $7 weekly venue fee paid at venue.
Transport: bus.
Max students: 30.

Ice skating 

Students will be allowed to skate on the ice rink for at least 60 minutes.
Qualification and/or skills required: Basic ice confidence
Venue: Hunter Ice Skating Stadium, Warners Bay
Cost: $50 bus fare per term + $8 per week, equates to $130 for the term.
Payment: $50 Bus fare paid in full or instalments online or to the School office by Friday 7th December and $8 weekly venue fee paid at venue.
Transport: bus.
Max students: 60.

Indoor soccer

Students will participate in indoor soccer skills with inter sports house competitions.
Qualification and/or skills required: teamwork.
Venue: Charlestown Indoor Sports Centre.
Cost: $50 bus fare per term + $7 per week, equates to $120 for the term.
Payment: $50 bus fare paid in full or instalments online or to the school office by Friday 7 December and $7 weekly venue fee paid at venue.
Transport: bus.
Max students: 30.

Learn to surf

Learn to surf with Newcastle’s most experienced surf school! Newcastle Surf School is the longest running surf school in the Newcastle and Lake Macquarie area. Students will be accompanied by qualified and professional surf instructors who provide wetsuits, surfboards and in the water coaching. All you need is your swimmers.
Qualification and/or skills required: nil.
Venue: Nobby’s Beach.
Cost: $130 for the term. Includes coaching, wetsuits, and surfboards.
Payment: $130 paid in full or instalments online or to the school office by Friday 7 December.
Transport: bus.
Max students: 25.

MMA fight fitness

Students will participate in a fight style strength and conditioning class run by the qualified instructors at Alpha MMA in Cardiff. The lessons will encourage teamwork, promote confidence and respect for one another using mixed martial arts training techniques and philosophy.
Qualification and/or skills required: nil.
Venue: Alpha MMA, Cardiff.
Cost: $130 for the term.
Payment: $130 paid in full or instalments online or to the school office by Friday 7 December.
Transport: bus.
Max students: 20.

Self defence

Shim Jang Assistant Master Instructor Joanne Dovey will take students through a self-defence program where they will learn to defend themselves against attackers, improve their fitness, confidence, learn to work together and respect each other.
Qualification and/or skills required: nil.
Venue: school hall.
Cost: $80
Payment: paid in full or instalments to the school office or online by Friday 7 December *Free for Shimjang training members
Transport: walk
Max students: 30 (minimum 10 students)

Surf survival skills

Students will attend various beaches to learn valuable surf survival skills. This is a practical course and will involve swimming in the ocean and appropriate qualifications will be required. This may incur an additional cost.
Qualification and/or skills required: nil.
Venue: various locations around North Lake Macquarie.
Cost: $50 bus fare.
Payment: $50 bus fare per term. Paid in full or instalments online or to the school office by Friday 7 December.

Max students: 30

Tennis

Students will learn tennis skills and rules. They will play minor tennis games and compete in a tennis tournament for house points.
Qualification and/or skills required: nil.
Venue: Cardiff Tennis Academy.
Cost: $5 per week, equates to $50.
Payment: paid weekly at the venue.
Transport: walk.
Max students: 30.

Trampoline and gymnastics Gglendale

Students will be coached by Australian Competition Trampoline and Gymnastics coaches in trampoline, double mini trampoline, tumbling and gymnastics. This sport will have a focus on learning skills and routines and should be selected by any student wishing to improve their trampoline skills. Students will have access to Olympic trampolines, pit trampolines, and competition-quality equipment.
Qualification and/ venue: Hunter Sports Centre Glendale.
Skills required: nil..
Cost: $150 for the term.
Payment: $150 paid in full or instalments online or to the school office by Friday 7 December.
Transport: bus.
Max students: 30.

Weights Anytime Fitness

A qualified instructor will orientate students with the equipment and provide a basic program to work through or they can work on their own program.
Qualification and/or skills required: minimum age 14.
Venue: Anytime Fitness, Warners Bay.
Cost: $50 bus fare per term + $7 per week, equates to $120 for the term.
Payment: $50 bus fare paid in full or instalments online or to the school office by Monday 7 December and $7 weekly venue fee paid at the venue.
Transport: bus.
Max students: 20.

Weights genetics

A qualified instructor will orientate students with the equipment and provide a basic program to work through or they can work on their own program.
Qualification and/or Skills Required: Minimum age 14
Venue: Genetics, Warners Bay
Cost: $50 bus fare per term + $7 per week, equates to $120 for the term.
Payment: $50 bus fare paid in full or instalments online or to the school office by Friday 7 December and $7 weekly venue fee paid at the venue.
Transport: bus.
