Subject Preferences
Our elective preferences program encourages students to actively participate in choosing the subjects they wish to study. At Cardiff High School, we support a student-centred approach, allowing students to select interest-based electives as part of their personalised learning journey.
Students are encouraged to choose their electives based on their own interests and what they believe they will enjoy, rather than following their friends' choices. It is important that students are comfortable with their reserve selections, as these may often become part of their study pattern.
Year 8 students study 2 elective courses, one elective per semester, with each course comprising 5 periods per cycle. Please be aware that not all elective courses may be available, as course availability depends on viability and staffing.
Year 9 students study 2 elective courses across Year 9 and into Year 10, with each course consisting of 6 periods per cycle. Please note that not all elective courses may run, as availability depends on course viability and staffing.
Year 11 and Year 12 students undertake an English course along with five elective subjects as part of their Higher School Certificate (HSC).
